I spent a lot of time with one of my aunts growing up. Her and her husband were "live off the land" kind of people. But I was young and didn't really participate so much in their homesteading lifestyle. Now that I'm older, I am trying to live a more organic lifestyle. This book is one of the many that I have found to be helpful in my planning. Every new page, every new idea brings me new excitement at the prospect of having the kind of life that I grew up seeing as a kid. I may not have understood it then, but I definitely see limitless benefits as an adult.

This is the perfect first book for anyone who is looking to understand how to live off the grid, or self-sufficiently. Right now, I'm trying to decide which book I should get next to continue to learn on. Maybe I can find a book on all the companion plants for vegetables or better yet, maybe I can write one.

I liked this book. I consider myself knowledgeable in most of the areas that were covered. I have 50 years experience in canning, baking bread and 60 years in vegetable gardening. I also have raised most of the farm animals. So to find a book that teaches me something new is fun and a real delight. For example: under the canning section I liked the needed information which is contained in boxes entitled QUANTITY. This book has the amount needed for a full canner of either quarts or pints. How original. This would be a great book for a beginner and I enjoyed it as well.

I liked the book and the way the information was presented. Covered the basics very well. Even though I have gardened and canned for many years, I found useful tips and some new things to try.

A year ago, I stumbled onto this author and she made me think and take a close look at the world around me. Highly recommend for the beginner looking of a cleaner more fulfilling way.

Great book! Had a bit of everything needed to get going on the path to do it yourself food weather your growing a tomato plant on your balcony or planning on running a full homestead. Shows you how to do it no matter what your money situation is.

This is a well written, easy to understand guide which offers many very good suggestions and recommendations toward self-sufficiency. It offer many insights into living in a simplier and more healthful life. A great reference book as well.
