Hats off to the Author!
My grandson just went back to in-person learning. His teacher is not the best or has enough patience. My grandson has certain special needs that are in place. I cried when he said his special needs teacher would not explain all things to him like metaphor that first few days, just told him that he was making "baby excuses" when he said he didn't know the word on the sheet. The other day when I went online to find books for his age group(he just turned 10)I came across this book. (My grandson also had to catch up in-person on subject matter not covered in remote.) This book is perfect! I can't wait to give it to him and it has a picture of a boy and along with him is his little sister - just as my grandson has - a six year old sister. Parents, pay attention to the attitudes of educators on remote.

A terrific teaching tool!
After reading this with my intermediate class, we created our own pictures of metaphors and idioms. It really helped my students understand the difference between a metaphor and a simile (I also used Crazy Like a Fox). Add Love That Dog + Hate That Cat (Sharon Creech) and you'll have your kiddos finding literary devices in their own independent reading.

You're Toast and Other Metaphors We Adore (Ways to Say It)
This is a great book to teach elementary school students about metaphors. Although it does confuse metaphors and similes, I intend to use this as a mentor text in my classroom. However, you will need to keep on your toes. Thanks Nancy for writing this excellent book.

Pretty much all of the metaphors are also idioms which made them more difficult for my students to understand when they had to writ metaphors.

Who gets the Pie?
Cute book that does a good job explaining a few metaphors. Great illustrations and kept my kindergartener's interest. Not as many as I would liked but it was a cute story.

Fun Visual
Learning idioms isnโt easy for young people. This book has a visual presentation and the written format. I Read this aloud the first time.
