Caregiver's Path to Compassionate Decision Making: Making Choices for Those Who Can't Paperback – July 1, 2010

I was introduced to Viki through a local non profit group. We exchanged emails and I bought her book. My expectations were high that I had many questions about how to deal with an aging parent. I started the book and found it was very difficult to put it down. Viki's style of writing is just like you were sitting next to her and having a conversation with a friend. Viki shares a lot of personal history to draw you into the understanding of each topic. I found that Viki's style of sharing that she made mistakes when she was caring for her mother makes us feel vulnerable, but also opens the reader up to the position of we are all human and there is no way we could know everything. If we do things from the heart and seek counsel when we are out of our comfort zone, the rest should fall into place. Viki will be speaking in our local community soon and I am anxiously waiting to meet her and tell her how much I enjoyed her book.

As a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, I work with folks who have mobility issues due to accident, illness or aging. Although I am not a caregiver per se, reading this book gave me additional insight to the day-to-day challenges of those in need as well as their caregivers. Unless our lives are cut short, we'll all be there someday--having to rely on others for our needs. Caregivers are not given the credit they deserve, especially those who must do it 24/7. It behooves all of us to look through the window at their compassionate sacrifices, and learn what difficult choices and how to cope with them lie ahead.

I have been running a support group for Caregiver's of Alzheimers or dementia patients for over 15 years. I always try to find books that will help them in this journey since my husband had Alzheimer's disease for 20 years. When I saw this book on Amazon, I knew it would be a good book to offer my group of 16 people. So far, everyone that has read it have been very appreciative of the information they have gleaned from its contents. I will continue looking for helpful information on Amazon as they always have wonderful books containing much needed help.

I highly recommend this book for all levels of individuals involved in caring for others. It is a valuable resource that cover information needed to make all levels of decisions. I have never found this information discussed in such a clear, compassionate manner.V Kind exemplifys from her experience and studies that she has walked the pathway of a caregiver.I've had the pleasure of hearing her speak at a hospice near me and personally met her & her husband. Both are very caring people. GET THE BOOK.

I haven't read the entire book yet, but what I have read has been very helpful, especially with the guilt! I'm looking forward to finishing the book.

Amazing resource. I have bought several to pass along to others. I read and reread as my husband reaches new stages in his slow goodbye.

Good book but I was looking for something more about dealing with Alzheimers and this was a little too generic for me.

I recently had to use the information imparted in this book. It was instructive and reassuring during a difficult time.
