L.A. Candy: A YA Novel About Reality TV Fame, Friendship, and Life in Hollywood

This book actually surprised me. Despite the good reviews, I had low expectations for it. Lauren might seem very girly and into fashion, but she can write a good novel if she wants to. This novel hooked me, and I loved it. I loved the moral of the fable, because one thinks that that the reality shows are peaches and cream, and the reality is another. A short summary, This novel is about Jane Roberts who moves in to Los Angeles with her best friend Scarlett. Jane is naturally blonde, cute, makes mistakes with her relationships, a normal person, if you will. Scarlett is gorgeous, opinionated, real smart, and has beautiful black hair. A producer discovers Jane and persuades her into this reality show *with Scarlett* and they meet another two girls, Madison *fake blonde with big boobs and wants to be famous at all costs* and Gaby *real dumb*. Jane and her friend soon find out that that fame comes with a price that she's not prepared to pay.

As soon as I got the book I started reading it and couldn't put it down. I love Lauren Conrad and "The Hills" show. Although now that she has left the show I do not watch it anymore. The the rest of the cast are just stupid and is plain to see that the show is made up. I mean come on Heidi and Spencer had all this drama and they still got married. It's all just for the money. I only watched it because Lauren was on it. Any hoot the book is Great. It is a Great summer read. Trust me if you like the show when Lauren was on it you will enjoy reading her book. I hope she writes other books in the near future. She did a Great job.

Although I didn't think I would like this book, when I finally decided to read it I did my best to go into it with an open mind. I am not a big fan of shows like "The Hills" and I had heard rumors that this series was similar to the show. I was afraid it would be a book with little substance and lots of fluff. I won't say this book is some profound piece of literature, but it was actually very enjoyable! It didn't take me long to get into the story and fall in love with the 2 main characters, Jane and Scarlett. Jane is a very lovable character, sweet and friendly. Scarlett is lovable as well, but in a totally different way. Scarlett is more straightforward and doesn't tiptoe around people's feelings, but she will do anything she can to protect Jane. As for the other 2 girls involved, Madison and Gaby, Gaby is sweet but clueless....and Madison is a character you will just have to learn about when you read the story. As I said before I was worried this book would fall flat, but I did really enjoy it. There were parts in the book that made me laugh out loud. Little comments between Jane and Scarlett and some off handed remarks that were quite humorous. The banter between the girls reminded me of my friends and how we joke with each other. There is a lot of drama going on in this story, but the reactions and the feelings of the characters really ground this book and make it more relatable. It is about more than just some well to do girls who get a big break in Hollywood. You will find yourself really rooting for Jane and wondering what Scarlett will say next. If you are passing up this book just because of the author, I think you are making a big mistake! This book is a fun read and perfect if you are in the mood for a drama filled chick lit novel!

I was so excited about this book, LA Candy, I really wanted to see Lauren Conrad prove that she was more than the TV show had portrayed her to be, but I see now that it is quite an accurate description. I opened the book and read the front flap and instantly realized this was an eye-roller. It's written at about a 3rd grade reading level, and just as the reality TV show has no story arc, this book is more about watching the characters rather than experiencing a beginning, middle, and especially an end. Then I realized Conrad has a 3 book deal, however I don't think that is an excuse for not coming up with an ending to a novel. Having said all that, this book is a true guilty pleasure. I couldn't put it down once I started reading, and finished it in just a few hours of reading time. It's easy and fun and very light summer reading. I found it interesting to see the Reality TV process from the other side, but don't try to look for The Hills characters in the book, it will be just more confusing since I don't remember ANY of these characters in the show, especially Scarlett, the "un-relatable dark-haired exotic beauty who is smarter than everyone at U.S.C."... who the heck was that? Short Version: Lauren isn't doing anything to prove her intelligence as anything different from the portrayal on MTV, but LA Candy is just as fun as an episode of The Hills.

at first when i started reading this book i figured it was basically just a written version of the show "the hills. but i have to say it was really, really gooodddd!!! i didnt expect to really enjoy this book but i really wanted to read it because i am a big fan of lauren conrad. she really inspired me to want to write after i finsihed reading this book because she proves that you can accomplish as miuch as you put your mind too. towards the end is when the book got really goood and i cant believe it ended the way it did! it makes me want to read the next boook ssossosososososo badly and i cant wait till it comes out in february! love itttt!!!!

I love the LA Candy series. I ready all 3 books pretty quickly, they are all a very fast read. The characters are relatable and the story is entertaining. This is a very young book so not deep but really fun to read. It was interesting to think some of the things she wrote about were true to filming a reality tv series

Yes, this book is definitely a "guilty pleasure" but the ending literally made my jaw drop and I had to immediately download the 2nd book to my iPad. It's a great easy read that I was able to pick up here and there for 15 minutes at a time (a new baby keeps me busy, and I don't always have an hour to sit down and read.) Read the book for what it is, silly, young, and spunky. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quick entertaining read.

First of all, let me start off by saying that A) I'm not a teenager, so perhaps not the target audience, and B) I bought this in the Kindle Reading Marathon sale for 99p (a steal!). I have been waiting to read this book for a little while now, as being a fan of Laguna Beach and The Hills, I wanted to see if Lauren Conrad could actually produce a decent book. And she can! It provided an interesting insight into how these types of reality shows are filmed. The best element of the book were the characters. They were well-rounded and I became engrossed in the plot because of them. I did have trouble believing that Scarlett could be allowed to film without brushing her hair or putting on make-up but thats not a really important fact. I believed in the Jane/Scarlett BFF, and Madison was fun to read about purely because she was so scheming. It was hard to warm up to the Braeden character though. I felt there could've been more for Gaby to do too. I finished this is a day as it wasn't too long and had a good time reading something light after getting through some pretty heavy books recently. I immediately purchased the next two straight after this one. A fantastic light read!

Parfait!

Gostei do livro. Literatura de fácil compreensão e mais indicado para meninas. Ouvi dizer que era muito superficial mas depois de ler nem liguei pra isso. A Lauren me surpreendeu.

Tutto perfetto

Amazing series
