3Pcs MCP2515 CAN Bus Module for Arduino 51 MCU ARM Controller

Pretty good. Work as expected.

Worked with my ECU for receiving signals and sending signals on the bus

At least one of the boards in my order arrived defective. Loopback mode worked, but it would not receive real data on a real CANbus. I tried to get it working for a few hours. Eventually I swapped to the second board I received in the order and it worked with the same software and the same settings. I am using one of these to listen in on the CANbus in my car, so I don't need a terminating resistor (or a jumper for the built in one). Once I swapped to a working board it did its job and gave me the data I needed.

Connected up just fine. Used to add MCU for neo pixels.

These boards are set up so that two of them can function as "ends" on a can bus, so long as one puts a jumper at the J1 position on the board. That way you don't need to set up a twisted wire pair with resistors between each end of the twisted wires as well as connect more boards in the middle of the two ends. If using a bread board, you can use two lines on the bread board one for high and low. Connect the "end can modules with jumpers" to each end of line. Then connect can-boards *without jumpers* in the middle of each line. Great for prototyping how you want your data packets to look. I connected an arduino Uno, Arduino MKR1000 and a series of RPI picos to a can bus using these. Remember the jumper on the boards though!

If you get CAN INIT OK but no data, dont forget to change your code to reflect that this is an 8mhz board not 16mhz. FYI.

I have a project that used these MCP2515 CANBUS modules to send and receive canbus messages. I was down to my last one so I ordered these three in. All three of these absolutely DO NOT WORK. Plugged in my old one I keep for testing purposes and the old one was fine, these three new ones absolutely do not transmit at all. Same code used between the older version of this and these canbus modules so I know its for sure these ones. Lost 4 hours diagnosing this issue. Absolutely do not buy these, they do not work. They initialize using a MCP canbus library and will talk to the controller (arduino) via SPI just fine - of which I verified with my oscilloscope, however between the MCP2515 and TJA1050 on the blue circuit board themselves the MCP2515 doesn't appear to be sending CANTX signals to the TJA1050, so nothing happens on the canbus. TLDR - these chips DO NOT WORK DO NOT BUY THEM.

These CAN bus adapters are meant to be used with 5 volts systems. Does not work with 3.3 volt systems. The differential line drivers are specified to work from 4.75 to 5.5 volts. The CAN controller can operate from 2.7 to 5.5 volts. It would have been more convenient if these CAN adapters were setup with jumpers for the power supply pins of the individuals ICs. This will allow you to select different power connections for the different ICs. These CAN adapters work fine if you only work with 5 volt systems.

Depending on your application the crystal may need to be changed. When used with an Arduino Uno (which operates at 16mhz) I needed to change the crystal to 16mhz. These come with an 8mhz crystal installed, not a big deal but something you may need to plan for. I've done some transmission rate testing vs the SparkFun shield and the two perform the same.

tried everything for months, not even basic communication between to arduinos. not one byte. all three boards. nothing
