Will this work with the new Xbox One-S?

It worked great on my first xbox One-S but recently bought a new xbox One-S and for some reason I can't get it to control the volume on my TV.  It will turn the TV off when I turn the console off and I can navigate around to diff aps, can pause, play and forward or rewind but cannot turn the volume up and down - super frustrating as I really love this remote especially the backlighting.

Does the controller turn off after several minutes like a standard xbox controller?

No, it doesn't work like a remote control (and using a different transmission standard too I think). The backlights will dim after inactivity but the buttons will always work provided you point the controller at the console.

How does this one compare to the smaller Microsoft brand Xbox one remote? (Besides ~2x the size)

The size is bigger because it has more buttons= more options. It is designed as a Media Remote with more Media options than the Microsoft. I would assume after reading reviews and a Talon vs Microsoft article that with the Microsoft you will be going back and forth with your Controller and Remote when streaming video. This is based off online reviews I have read and the article mentioned in a gaming mag comparing the 2 remotes

Any reason why get this remote over the smaller original version besides saving $5?

Its worth the extra money, this is the remote that Microsoft should have released in the beginning. I have both, wish i would've got this one first. You won't be disappointed!
