Gedore 1649329 620 Bit Adaptor, 1/4" Square to 1/4" Hex

These are great little adapters - this is my third one since I can't seem to hang on to them. I use it mostly with a little star palm ratchet and it's super convenient at times. I'm a little surprised at how many reviews complain about "the magnet" since there is no magnet in this socket. This one and my previous two have held on snugly to every bit I've put in them - some a little better than others. Be aware that some china-made bits these days are a bit undersize and if you have those and must keep them, a magnetic or locking collar is the way to go. If your bits are loose and they're an honest 1/4" then be sure the spring band/clip on this is in the right position - there's a small dimple on the opposite side of the gap that the ball should rest in, and that's all there is to it. The clip shouldn't rotate easily in use and the ball should never pop out - if it does then I think a 3/32 ball works and you can gently tighten the band if you can remove it carefully without damaging it. There is no spring inside like a ratchet anvil, just the band clip and ball. Works great, time tested design.

I ride a dual sport motorcycle and carry an emergency tool kit. Part of the goal of the kit is to carry only the essentials needed to fix what you anticipate you'll face on and off the road. As such, you want to make your tool kit as flexible as possible ...to cover the broadest repairs while carrying a minimum of tools. This little adapter allows me to turn a socket extension into a multi-driver. Which means all I have to carry are the driver bits; this little adapter saves me from carrying another tool or two. This looks to be a well-made adapter; it uses a captured ball bearing and spring to hold the bit in place and this, IMHO, is much more secure than a magnet. Machining is good as the bits fit snugly and the adapter fits a 1/4" drive with little slop. Someone commented this is made in Germany (it is a German company) but I can't confirm that; it came in a plastic zip "baggie" and there's nothing on the adapter indicating where it was made. Whether you ride a motorcycle or not, this is a handy adapter for just about any DIY's toolbox. With it, you can make a driver out of a lot of different tools.

Here’s my contribution to the Amazon tool community. 3/8 square to 1/4 bit holder. It’s very pricey considering there are other brands for half the price. However, most of those are larger in size, by a few mm. These lil baby is sexy though, with a satin chrome finish, black retention ring, and knurling for HIS pleasure ;). Bit retention is perfect, good hold but not so much you’d need pliers to get her out. If you care about how your tools look and feel, get this. If you just need an adapter and have no pride in your tools, get the Tekton or similar. Thank you Tool Gods…

High quality. Its exactly what I needed. I wanted to be able to use my socket flexible joints to reach some hard spots. This does it.

Holds a hex bit snug, is a real plus when using the adapter. Having the option to use a ratchet with a hex bit makes a lot of sense. Especially when wanting to add some additional torque to a bolt or screw head to get it removed. Nice addition to my tool kit.
