This stuff is the best self tanner available hands down! Due to turning 39 and the effects of tanning becoming more noticeable on my face and chest at an ever increasing speed, every year I spend a few hundred dollars buying all the number one, two and three top brands on the review lists. It seems like I have tried this brand before but it wasn't a spray, maybe a lotion? I always just end up with a cabinet full of useless, smelly lotions, mousse and sprays and end up back in the tanning bed. That will not be the case this year. This product gave me a better looking, darker color than tanning everyday. I have my own tanning bed at home and I'm afraid I'll just be using it to flat dry my sweaters from now on. After reading some more reviews I find out I can even make it better with blending balm I ordered it right away. I didn't buy anything extra (ie...blending balm, shimmer something, body polish for exfoliating) just what comes with the kit. I put regular Gold Bond Ultimate lotion on my hands, feet, elbows and knees and I wasn't stingy with it. I just used regular soap in the shower with a loofa. For sure use the gloves under the mitt because it dries fast and you won't be able to wash it off in time. It was easy to put on thanks to the guide color. It does not smell bad like every other one I've tried. I put 3 or 4 sprays on the mitt at first and then of course thought if 3-4 looks that good then 4-5 will be great. Nope....I have one tiny area that is a little darker where I first pit the mitt down but it is totally my fault. Everything else looks 100 times better. It is a nice golden brown, even coverage and super easy and fast. I did not think about the spot on my back that I can't reach before hand so I had to improvize a little and even with the delay of trying to rig something up it came out even. Without a tan my skin is pretty fair, kinda blotchy red for the most part and now I look like I have tanned for at least a month and I only used this one time. I can't wait to get a second application on and see how it looks. I can't imagine it being any better than it is right now. If anything changes with the wear and tear of day to day living I will be back with an update. Sorry this is so long I just want everyone to be as happy and relieved to finally find something worth the time and money.

When reviewing a self-tan product, I believe it's extremely important to introduce certain characteristics of the author in order for readers to determine whether the product should apply to them. Before I begin, I am 21 years old and extremely fair. As a child, I was decidedly ginger/strawberry blonde, so my skin WILL NOT tan - not then, not now. I've tried a lot of sunless tanners throughout my middle school/high school/collegiate struggle to be tan (or at least a normal, non-ghost shade). This ranges from L'Oreals Sublime Bronze lotions/sprays, to Model Co. products, to Xen Tan, and lots of other brands. As of now, this Fake Bake Flawless is my favorite self-tan product I've ever used. I'd argue that, when used properly, this is the best sunless tanner. The color guard in combination with the mitt makes sure I get every single square inch of my body, no streaks. It dried in minutes, and I was able to dress quickly. The liquid develops into a wonderful brown (not orange!) color, and it was even and believable. HOWEVER... it must be used properly :) There are a few reviews on here that have complaints about this product that I'm going to address here (mostly noting why they're silly complaints). The first major complaint is "bottle leakage" - the spray bottle that comes with the product is too long for the bottle. The natural solution I came up with was cutting down the straw to make it short enough to fit in the bottle and prevent leaks. CUT THE STRAW before you use and your Fake Bake won't leak! The second major complaint is about the application mitt. Some people say it leaves fuzzy stuff on them, some people say it should have velour on both sides, and some people think it won't last until the tanning product runs out. All of these are wrong. If you've shaved and don't press too hard, your mitt should NOT be leaving fuzzes on you. You're supposed to lightly buff the product on. If the mitt had velour on both sides, there would be risk for rubbing extra tanning solution in random places, most notably on your body where it can leave a streak. One of my biggest tips in using this product is WASH the mitt of all leftover tanning solution after each use. This will keep it in MUCH better shape. To get the brown, amazing results that most reviewers gush about for this product... it's not hard. Here are some steps to follow. Step 1: Shave and exfoliate with a Baiden mitten or a similar Turkish bath mitt. If you don't know what it is, promptly go purchase it and use it and be amazed. UPDATE 4/28/2014: Dry brushing thoroughly prior to entering the shower is also adequate exfoliation. Step 2: Take some scissors and snip off a bit more than an inch of the spray bottle attachment that came with the product, and put the modified attachment onto the bottle. This WILL prevent all leaking. Step 3: Rub body cream (I use Bliss Lemon & Sage body butter, the BEST cream EVER) into your elbows, knees, ankles, and knuckles. Let it dry. Step 4: Apply sunless solution as per the directions, using the gloves and the mitt, spraying on the mitt and then LIGHTLY buffing the color all over (it's probably best to put a tiny dab of body lotion on your knees and elbows and ankles). Step 5: This is my personal step that really helps me as an extremely pale person get a beautiful, even, brown tan. Everyone hates the tell-tale splotching on hands/feet that give away the fact that you're wearing a store bought tan. I highly recommend that every pale someone purchase a product called Xen Tan Blending Balm. Once you're done applying the tanner all over, including hands and feet, take your blending balm and go over your elbows, ankles, knuckles, sides of feet/hands, and wrists. I usually don't need Blending Balm on my knees when I use body butter. This will prevent the tan from developing into too-dark territory. UPDATE 7/25/2014: Xen Tan Blending Balm is almost impossible to find these days, but its first ingredient is petrolatum. Use some Vaseline instead if you can't find the Blending Balm. I also recommend using Smith's rosebud salve or any Badger balm. OVERALL... The Fake Bake Flawless system is fantastic. It's well-priced and delivers beautiful results (even for gingers), and beats the inconvenience associated with going to the spray tan place. When the correct measures are taken, it looks great for a long time. If you're looking for a deep, dark tropical tan, you'll need to apply it a few nights in a row. My advice is BUY THIS NOW. And then order some Xen Tan Blending Balm and a Baiden mitten (both very important!) OR as per update 7/25/2014 you can also use a dry brush pre-shower instead of a bath mitt and Vaseline/Smith's rosebud salve/Badger balm instead of blending balm. UPDATE: September 27, 2012 After finishing a whole bottle of Fake Bake, I'm happy to report that the velour mitten is still in tact. I'm adding this edit to emphasize how important it is to wash your mitten between uses. Washing the mitten also prevents leftover solution from becoming reactivated and leaving darker splotches in random places during application. Seriously yall, WASH YOUR MITTEN. UPDATE: December 13, 2013 Something I never mentioned in this review which I should have... The color guard is GREAT. It's gorgeous and brown. But... It will streak when it rains, and wash off in the shower, and rub off on your sheets. Which, to me, is whatever. It's fine. But it's just good to know and plan around! For instance... I opted to use Jergens the night before Carolina Cup a couple years back because I knew it would be rainy and I didn't want everyone and their momma noting how streaky my tan seemed to get in the drizzle. Anyways, just wanted to give this little update. Happy tanning :) UPDATE: April 28, 2014 Years later, I'm still obsessed with this tanning product :) However, like many people in the comments note, the product doesn't last as long as other sunless tanners without maintenence. Personally, I've found that this is a wonderful option when you need a light tan the day before a big event, such as a wedding or a horse race or a tailgate, and you don't have much time to devote to getting it perfect and you don't want to smell like you've been tanning. Fake Bake Flawless is also an ideal option for people who have never applied their own sunless tanner before, as it is basically idiot-proof. UPDATE: July 25, 2014 A whole 3 years later, after 2 Fake Bake Flawless kits, I still have both velour mitts. I always use them when I tan. I don't always use the Flawless system anymore, as it doesn't develop dark enough to my liking. My top two tanning products are Tanwise mousse via Sally Beauty and St. Moriz self tanning spray in dark, which you can find at Ulta. Both always applied with gloves and mitt, after exfoliation, with the Xen Tan blending balm. Keep in mind that these are MY favorites, but I've been self tanning for more than a decade. If you've never had success with a self tan product, buy the Fake Bake Flawless. Because of so many comments about how this product doesn't last, I'm going to recommend another option that I really love. For those of you who want a longer lasting tan, with a more difficult application, I recommend Tanwise Lotion or Mousse. The lotion stays on FOREVER. Tanwise is not a product for the faint of heart - it goes on VERY dark and stains your skin in streaks unless you blend QUICKLY. The other issue with the Tanwise is the bronzers WILL stain your hands, and the only way to get it off is with baking soda. I went to Charleston recently and applied this the morning of a very long day of bar crawling, and my arms were still tan at work a whole week later. You can find Tanwise products here on Amazon or at a Sally Beauty supply near you - but remember, they are NOT easy to apply correctly. The Fake Bake Flawless is still my absolute favorite product for a quick, easy, pretty, coconut-scented tan. I like to apply the Tanwise mousse with the gloves and mitt from my Fake Bake kit and it always works perfectly.

Just came back for a second bottle. I’ve been ‘sunless tanning’ for more than 20 years and have tried everything from drugstore to high end- gel, mousse, spray, towels, lotion etc. I’m not sure why I’ve never gotten around to trying Fake Bake but I’m really glad that I did. I have very far skin. My legs look like tortillas (no joke)- pasty white with brown spots and freckles. It would be hard to pick my favorite feature of this FB - goes on smooth, easy to blend and dries super fast. Like, within minutes. And I’m not talking about ‘dry but a little sticky or dampish’. It’s jist dry!! Skin feels soft. Remember tho, if you tan haphazardly, you’re going to get a haphazard tan. Take your time. It takes me less than 10 min to do my arms, legs, face, neck. The formula has a pinkish tint as it dries, which for me is a plus... my skin looks the way it would if I had spent all day out in the sun and got a touch too much sun. Perfect for me! I’ve never had an issue with it coming off on clothes, sheets etc. Sometimes it leaves a faint pinkish tint on washcloths but comes right out in the laundry. I apply in the evening (hour or 2 before bed) and when I wake up this next morning, I simply rinse off the color guide or use a wet washcloth or hand towel to wipe off the guide, especially if I’m wearing light clothing that day. I highly recommend doing this because if you get caught in the rain, the color guide will run off (not pretty) and you’ll be kicking yourself for not wiping off the color guide before you left that morning. (Trust me on this one 😩). I normally shower in the evening but if you shower in the am, then you should be fine to apply at night and shower off next morning. I haven’t had to do any kind of exfoliating or moisturizing before applying. That said, when I shower I use a very soft wash cloth (baby wash cloth) and moisturizing body wash- no harsh scrubbing. My tan turns out the same each time. I will say that I have to apply pretty much every evening (5 or 6 nights a week) but the results are worth it for me. Note: PLEASE follow the enclosed instructions and use the black gloves AND the mitt. Otherwise you’ll have a real mess on your hands. I’m not crazy about the mitt that it comes with; I prefer one with a thumb- it makes it so much easier to apply. I wish Fake Bake would take more of that. But you can buy mitts with a thumb here on Amazon. AS FOR THE SMELL- it has a very very faint coconut scent, which fades over the following hours. I have not noticed that weird smell that most tanners have hours after application. I am overall pleased, the price is reasonable, and the results are very good. One bottle lasts me almost 8 weeks (again, I just do arms, legs, face, neck). Very realistic color for someone with skin as fair as mine. 👍🏻

I am a 30 something female with VERY fair skin. I don't tan. I burn and then turn white again. I've been using self tan lotions for years. Up until several months ago when I tried Fake Bake for the first time, I was a Jergens girl. Now that I've switched to Fake Bake Flawless I probably won't be going back to anything I've ever tried before. This stuff works great, is SO EASY to apply with a mitt and doesn't smell like you just applied self tanner! That was one of the worst things about the Jergens stuff. It smelled obvious for several hours after you put it on. This stuff has a very mild and pleasant scent, not at all telling of self tanner. Just 4-5 squirts on the mitt per body part gives me a nice mild color that looks natural and without any striping or streaking if done right and quickly. It also "sets" very quickly so you can get dressed and go about your business, which I really like. The only reason I have removed a star is because it does not last as long as the Jergens or other stuff, at least it hasn't in my several months of experience. In fact, it barely lasts a day. I generally apply it following a shower and don't get wet until 24 hours later. By a day to a day and a half tops, I'm back to my completely white self again. Now, the caveat to this is that I don't apply it daily and don't do lots of coats to build up a thick and dark tan. As I mentioned before, I'm a fair skinned individual and want it to look NATURAL. So just be advised, if you're like me and only want a light natural looking tan, it's not going to last long at all and I would worry about swimming for at least 8 hours after apply it. Besides that, this is a good product and I will continue to use. I did buy a nicer mitt (Thermalabs Ultamitt) to use though than the one that came with this bottle and I like it a lot.

Love this product, goes on great, smells like coconuts. Hint; cut off about 3/4 inch of spray tube so that it fits better in the bottle and you will not have any leaking! Also, this is not meant to be used upside down to spray, if you do that it will come out "spitting", which you will instantly have to rub in or you will get splotches. I do the usual shower, exfoliate, dry, wait at least an hour after shower so you are really dry. Remember to use a small amount of lotion, (not like you would normally moisturize) on heels, ankle bones, knees and elbows so that these areas do not get overly dark!!! Start at feet and work your way up. I spray on the mitt and rub in circles lightly over toes, and then harder on my legs. Apply spray as needed to the mitt and rub in. This product makes you instantly darker so you can see where you would need more spray. Continue rubbing in circles everywhere you want to be tan. Unless you are double-jointed or have long arms, you will need someone to do you back. I also use this on my face, but since there is usually quite a bit of product on the mitt, there is no need to spray more. Girls, if you wear you hair up, make sure to apply this to the sides and back of your neck and outsides of ears! FYI Guys.. I didn't originally buy this thinking my husband would even want to use this product as he was talking about going to a tanning salon...boy was I wrong. My husband is a very fair person, with pasty white skin and especially his legs. He doesn't tan, HE BURNS!. He has tried other products and they always left him orange and any age or darker spots, (he is 57 yrs old) on his legs were made even darker, NOT THIS PRODUCT. I originally bought two 12 oz bottles, (didn't know if I would like it but the reviews were very favorably) and we have both been using it approximately 3-4 times a week since early April and are into the second bottle, but there is about 2/3 left. So I say between the both of us a bottle will last a month or so. ALSO...FYI. I opened the second bottle and it came with a set of the blue gloves, and a mitt but no sprayer so make sure you keep the sprayer. I wash the mitt every 3-4 uses, let dry in the sun, (just put by window not necessarily outside and it drys fast), and then soften the mitt again before use with a soft brush like a toothbrush or a nail scrubbing brush, not real hard just for a bit to make the mitt soft again so that the tanning product goes on smooth. It is now May 13, and I'm getting ready to order again to carry us thru summer. Needless to say, we both love this product, it's easy to use and will keep using it. FYI...I used this in the morning, let dry and then went about my day. Later in the day, while washing dishes and splashing water on my arms, the initial tan color was washing off making my arms splotchy looking. (NOT THE TAN ITSELF). I just took so paper towel and wiped on my arms to get the rest of the initial color dried off and everything was fine. My tan was still there, it was just the initial color that had washed off. Hence the reason the directions say spray at night and take a (VERY LIGHT) shower in the morning and pat, NOT RUB, yourself dry. When you take a shower after applying this product, (WAIT OVERNIGHT OR AT LEAST 12 HOURS) what you see coming off is the initial guide color of the tan, the actual tan product has had a chance to activate and you will still have a tan, maybe somewhat lighter, but still tan. I have had no other problems with this product. Apply two coats initially if you would like, no problem. This product is very flexible and we love it.

This is great stuff!! IF You READ and FOLLOW the directions it will not streak and will last a good week. Before applying, make sure to shower and exfoliate at NIGHT, preferably right before bedtime. (If you do this in the morning or daytime it does not have time to set properly!!) If you shave your legs beforehand make sure to rinse, your whole body and especially your shaved legs, with COLD water at the end of your shower. This will close your pores and you won't get brown discoloration spots at your shaving sites. Apply it with the mitt right after your shower and it will apply much smoother as your skin is softer and more supple. Just like applying body lotion after you shower, it soaks in easier. It's quick drying so you don't have to wait but a few minutes before putting on your pjs. I do my legs last and find that my top half is dry by the time I finish with my legs. I throw on my top and wait a few minutes to put on my shorts or bottoms. That's it! It doesn't stain my sheets and there is only a little discoloration on the back neck of my top in the morning. Also, I do NOT shower the next morning but wait until that evening or even the following morning. This will really help set the application and make the color last. People's reviews that complain it sucks aren't following the directions. I cannot stress enough to READ and FOLLOW the directions! If you apply this in the morning or during the daytime it will come off and streak as you wash your hands or splash water on any treated areas of your skin! Also, don't use your body scrubby between applications, use shower gel or soap only. This may sound like it's a pain to use, it's really not. It really works, looks natural and lasts IF you READ and FOLLOW the directions! I will be using this all summer long! Highly recommended!!

I am about as fair as they come. I am pale, almost sickly pale. Sometimes I get insecure about it, so I've tried a couple other tanning methods. I've tried the sun, but it seems like I either burn or nothing happens. I've done the mystic spray tan and hated it, it lasted a couple days and smelled rank, and I've done banana boat and jergens lotion. Both are streaky and I hated the results (or lack of) I gave up and tried this... It comes with a spray cap, lotion type cap, a mitt and a pair of gloves. The easiest way is to snip off about an inch off the bottom of the spray top and use that instead of the lotion cap to avoid mess. I spray onto my skin everywhere except my hands, feet, and face, I spray onto the mitt for those areas. My favorite part is you can see what areas you've tanned because it has color guard. I didn't use lotion on my problem areas and I didn't have any blotches at all. Make sure to exfoliate before hand. Edit: I've now been using this for a couple weeks and I can give a more detailed review. The tan itself on me lasts about a week. I find my face and chest seems to fade much faster then other parts so I end up re-touching every 2-4 days. Remember, I do not use gradual tanner in between, just this product. I like this because when you apply it and if you accidentally find a blotch, you can still rub it out if you recently applied the tan. FINAL EDIT: I've been on this stuff for over a month and I'm getting to the point where it's too much of a hassle to keep it up. I apply it at night before bed, get up and go to work and come home and shower. Almost 50% of it washes down the drain. I put a sticker on my hip to monitor the tan and I'm already losing a s*** ton of color the next day of washing. To keep my color I'd literally have to be applying every day or every other day. It just washes off. It's not like I'm scrubbing hard either, just a quick sponge off. You could see where I placed the sticker clear as day after I tanned but after showering you have to really look to see it. I am extremely disappointed because it looked like this was going to be a good product, but it does not last. I bought the fake bake lotion and I plan to double team myself with this product and that one in hopes I'll have a more stable tan but if not, I'll probably use up the bottle and never buy it again. I just don't understand how it can fade that much after one wash. They say the color running down the drain is only color guard, thats not true. It's half of your skin tone. :/

I have been an avid tanner for years. I have tried every UV bed, spray tan, and tanning lotion on the market. I have olive skin when I'm tan, so I try to go for the natural brown and not orange look. UV beds were addictive until at age 26 I had to have a tumor removed from my skin. Seriously, if you use conventional UV tanning, I guarantee you'll care when you get tumors/cancer and your skin will seriously age by 30. I now have a scar on my chest, less than cute! Spare yourself the scarring if all you care about is looks. I had a membership for sunless tanning that seemed to be the only way to get a regular tan somewhat conveniently. At home tanners never got me as dark and were all streaky when applied. THIS TANNING SPRAY AND MIT SET IS AMAZING!! This stuff is sooo easy to use and gives me an instant dark tan with the bronzer, and develops to a very natural colored dark tan over a few hours, so that by the time you shower and rinse off the bronzer, you are tan underneath. This DOES NOT rub off on clothes and goes on so easily. I spray the mit about four or five times and rub it onto my skin. The fantastic thing about this spray is that you can add more or continue to blend it into skin and it doesn't get all dry and streaky like other sunless tanners. I've never had to leave streaks due to too many layers of tanner or too many attempts to blend it. The combination of the gloves and mit completely prevents my hands from staining. The mit makes application incredibly fast and smooth, streak free. This stuff dries amazingly fast (you can still add more to the dry parts to add more color or even out a streak) and doesn't get on clothes. Where I used to have to carefully apply lotion, wash my hands a million times, and stand around naked waiting to dry, now I quickly apply this and immediately go get dressed. My skin always looks tan now. It takes only about five minutes to apply over the whole body. There is literally no inconvenient aspect to this spray. It is as easy as drying your skin off with a towel, only you're applying tan. It lasts for about three days and then when it starts to fade it does so evenly and without patchy spots. You can even add contouring to your body (think extra cleavage and instant abs). I am so excited to find this product. I am canceling my spray tan membership, which will save my hundreds a year, I don't have to worry about skin damage AND I can easily look great every day. Amazing. Update: This is still my favorite tanner months after my original purchase, and after trying several others including mousses and sprays. I just ordered my second Fake Bake kit. My mitt wore out around the time that I ran out of tanner. It was still usable, but had little pills on it that caused streaking. I had also been using it with other tanning products, so if I had used it alone, it would have out-lasted the Fake Bake spray. So you get a new mitt every time you buy this product and the mitt lasts through the use of the entire 6 ounces. I washed it after every tan application with warm water and whatever hand soap I had on hand. I then let it air dry. I did cut the plastic pump bottle tube so that it was not longer than the bottle is tall. I will do that again with my new one. This product smells so good that I actually get complimented on what scent I'm wearing, as if I'm wearing perfume. It's a tropical coconut smell. The reason this is hands down my favorite tanner, even though I've found one that is darker (St. Moriz Dark Mousse), is that it is so easy to apply and dries so fast that as soon as I set down the bottle and wash the mitt, I can go get dressed. It always looks really even, not splotchy, even when I'm being lazy and apply it without much attention. Even my most hard-core tanning friends don't like tanning every day because their products are a hassle and they have to wait an hour to put on clothes. You could easily use this every day. Takes me 10 minutes tops and always looks better than being pale!
