Mountain Born

This was a great read aloud with my 6yo. He enjoys outdoor adventure stories. This book also has a strong, wise, kind male character that is great for young boys to read about.

I read this to my 6 year old. Both of us enjoyed the story. There were a few parts I had to skim over (docking the sheep tail) b/c we are both sensitive. Overall a great story about growing up, gaining responsibility and seasons of life.

This was an enjoyable children’s story about a shepherd family. I learned things about shepherds that helped me understand the explanations in the Bible a bit more. This wasn’t an overtly Christian story though the Bible was mentioned as the only book that the old shepherd’s (he worked for the family the story was about) family owned. I recommend it but I feel many of today’s children won’t appreciate it as much. It made a nice read aloud though!

This was on a reading list for our home school reading. I was not so interested in reading it, but chose to make it a read allowed for my third grader as he still likes to be read to. We read a chapter a week making in our fall free reading. I believe I must of cried for at least ten minutes at the close of the book, but I throughly enjoyed reading it to my son He enjoyed it as much as last years book "Understood Betsy". What a beautiful coming of age book for young ones so full of family values, Christian values and life!

I r re ad this book to my six year old daughter. We were both enthralled by the simple, yet descript writing. It inspired my daughter to ask questions and do research on sheep. I loved the coming of age storyline for the main human character, Peter. I gave this story five stars because I look forward to reassuring this story with each of my children as they grow.

Mountain Born is about a very young boy and the lamb his mother saves from death. Peter, the boy, adopts the lamb and raises it by bottle from the day of its birth. The two become inseparable. They share many adventures with an older wise workhand named Benj. The book covers a span of seven years as Peter and his goat, Biddy grow up together. The story is interesting and describes life on a mountain sheep farm during the early 20th century. Peter's family live off the land, growing everything they need. Their clothing even comes from the wool of their sheep. Life is simple, requires hard work, and creates a strong bond between the humans and their animals. This is an endearing story of the cycle of life and a boy's growth into young manhood.

This coming-of-age story was so relatable for my 6 & 9 year old boys. It was easy to fall in love with Peter and admire the wisdom & gentleness of Benj. We’re halfway through A Place For Peter now, and are finding it just as inspiring.

This was part of our history curriculum read alouds. My son who is 9 really enjoyed this book. It was an easy read and a beautiful coming of age story.

Endearing story. My children really enjoyed this as a read aloud.
